Cottone no se quedó solo con la técnica familiar. Su búsqueda lo llevó a la Escuela “Leandro Alem” y, más tarde, a cruzar el océano. En 1995, los Encuentros Fotográficos de Arles, Francia, marcaron un antes y un después. Allí, el fotógrafo santafesino entendió que su lente podía capturar no solo lo que veía, sino lo que sentía.

Durante años, se nutrió de los grandes: Marcos López, Juan Travnik y Daniel Barraco. Esa amalgama de maestros, sumada a su profundo conocimiento del arte —forjado en las salas del Museo Rosa Galisteo—, le dio una caligrafía visual única: profunda, humanista y, por momentos, mística.

Pero Raúl no solo dispara el obturador. Su labor como asesor del Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes desde 1978 y su rol como curador en el Festival de la Luz lo posicionan como un arquitecto de la cultura. Cottone es quien decide cómo debemos mirar el arte de otros, aportando su criterio para elevar la fotografía a su máxima expresión.

What began as a game of shadows in his adolescence transformed into one of the most solid and respected careers in contemporary Argentine photography.

From the Coast to the Eyes of the World
Cottone did not settle for family technique alone. His search led him to the “Leandro Alem” School and, later, across the ocean. In 1995, the Rencontres d’Arles (France) marked a turning point. There, the photographer understood that his lens could capture not only what he saw, but what he felt. For years, he was nurtured by the greats: Marcos López, Juan Travnik, and Daniel Barraco. This blend of masters, added to his deep knowledge of art—forged in the halls of the Rosa Galisteo Museum—gave him a unique visual calligraphy: deep, humanist, and at times, mystical.

The Image Tailor: Curatorship and Management
Raúl does more than pull the shutter. His work as an advisor to the Provincial Museum of Fine Arts since 1978 and his role as a curator at the Festival de la Luz position him as an architect of culture.
