KIHLEN IDES. BIOGRAFIA
Artista Santafesina, vive en Buenos Aires.
Nació el 10 de julio de 1917, en la provincia de Santa Fe. Su niñez transcurrió a orillas del Paraná en las provincias de Corrientes y el Chaco. La pintura, su compañera de ruta más fiel junto con la música, la siguió desde pequeña.
Ya en Buenos Aires, tempranamente entró en la Escuela de Artes Decorativas y así prosiguió con extrema dedicación hasta hoy que, continúa su trabajo de manera activa.
Pío Collivadino, director de la Escuela, comenta que cuando Ides ingresó a la misma, supo de su entusiasmo por concurrir a esa institución. Vicente Puig durante más de diez años la tuvo como alumna dilecta. Frecuentó diferentes talleres, como los de: Pettoruti, André Lhote en París, también el de Batlle Planas, quien le dejó una fuerte impronta.
Estudió, además, Historia del Arte.
Visitó museos de distintas ciudades del mundo. Nada la apresuró. Su trabajo se mantuvo independiente del desarrollo del arte en Buenos Aires. Quiso, más que nada, serle fiel a sus propios tiempos internos. Durante mucho tiempo, se interesó más por los procesos del arte que por los resultados. Su vida y obra es objeto de análisis permanente por medio de centros especializados y estudiosos, además de exponer.
Ides Kihlen es una artista de larga trayectoria que a sus 107 años se encuentra activa y produciendo piezas abstractas. Una artista que recién dio a conocer su obra pasados sus 80 años y en su trabajo se destacan los collages artesanales que mezclan colores y texturas. A lo largo de su vida, Ides Kihlen se mantuvo fiel a sus propios ritmos internos, prefiriendo explorar los procesos del arte más que centrarse en los resultados. Este enfoque la llevó a no profesionalizarse como artista, ya que para ella, ser artista era simplemente una parte intrínseca de su ser. Esta elección también tuvo como consecuencia la destrucción de muchas de sus obras y la falta de títulos o fechas en sus cuadros.
Su trabajo, que se mantuvo independiente del desarrollo del arte en Buenos Aires, fue conocido principalmente por sus profesores, compañeros de taller, y Adolfo Nigro, a quien decidió mostrarle algunos de sus trabajos a principios de los años 80. Sin embargo, los testigos más cercanos de su dedicación artística han sido sus hijas y su nieta, quienes guardan el legado de una vida marcada por la pasión por el arte y la música.
Entre sus exhibiciones más recientes, se destacan “Retratos de un Pasado Presente”, en el Museo de la Cárcova, Buenos Aires, y una exhibición individual, Via Margutta & Eleven 11, West Palm Beach, Florida, ambas en 2022; la participación especial como invitada con un Stand individual en la Feria Estampa Madrid (Aina Nowack AAC) y su exhibición individual en Bryan Westbrook Gallery en Carmel, San Francisco, en 2021; y su participación en 2020 en Untitled Art Fair, Isabella Hutchinson, San Francisco (Aina Nowack AAC).

Artist from Santa Fe, lives in Buenos Aires.
She was born on July 10, 1917, in the province of Santa Fe. Her childhood was spent on the banks of the Paraná River in the provinces of Corrientes and Chaco. Painting, her most faithful companion along with music, followed her from a young age.
Once in Buenos Aires, she early on entered the School of Decorative Arts and continued with extreme dedication until today, where she remains actively working.
Pío Collivadino, director of the School, comments that when Ides entered, he recognized her enthusiasm to attend the institution. Vicente Puig had her as a favorite student for over ten years. She frequented different studios, such as those of Pettoruti, André Lhote in Paris, and also Batlle Planas, who left a strong imprint on her.
She also studied Art History.
She visited museums in various cities around the world. Nothing rushed her. Her work remained independent of the development of art in Buenos Aires. More than anything, she wanted to be faithful to her own internal rhythms. For a long time, she was more interested in the processes of art than in the results. Her life and work are subjects of permanent analysis by specialized centers and scholars, in addition to her exhibitions.
Ides Kihlen is a long-standing artist who, at 107 years old, is active and producing abstract pieces. An artist who only revealed her work after turning 80, her work is characterized by handcrafted collages that blend colors and textures. Throughout her life, Ides Kihlen remained true to her own internal rhythms, preferring to explore the processes of art rather than focusing on the results. This approach led her not to professionalize as an artist, as for her, being an artist was simply an intrinsic part of her being. This choice also resulted in the destruction of many of her works and the lack of titles or dates on her paintings.
Her work, which remained independent of the development of art in Buenos Aires, was known primarily by her teachers, workshop colleagues, and Adolfo Nigro, to whom she decided to show some of her works in the early 80s. However, the closest witnesses to her artistic dedication have been her daughters and granddaughter, who preserve the legacy of a life marked by a passion for art and music.
Among her most recent exhibitions are “Retratos de un Pasado Presente” (Portraits of a Present Past) at the Museo de la Cárcova, Buenos Aires, and an individual exhibition, Via Margutta & Eleven 11, West Palm Beach, Florida, both in 2022; special guest participation with an individual Stand at the Estampa Madrid Fair (Aina Nowack AAC) and her individual exhibition at Bryan Westbrook Gallery in Carmel, San Francisco, in 2021; and her participation in 2020 at Untitled Art Fair, Isabella Hutchinson, San Francisco (Aina Nowack AAC).
